What is netiquette?
Netiquette is Internet etiquette - the informal rules of behaviour to be followed when using the Internet. These Internet customs have evolved over time, and help make the Internet a pleasant place. There are netiquette guidelines for most Internet resources, including e-mail, mailing lists and newsgroups.It is all the more important on the net because there are no facial clues or body language to help us understand another person, as there is in face to face meetings.
What areas/to what people do you think teaching netiquette is important? Give evidence with your examples.
It is important to teach netiquette to the youth of today as they will therefore grow up and keep to these standards in the future, teaching their children and so on. This should be made compulsory within schools and be taught to employees within organisations to ensure safe and polite behavior over the internet. This is important as incorrect netiquette could disturb the peoples relationships as misunderstandings could commonly occur.
For example:
- IF SOMEONE TYPES A MESSAGE IN CAPITALS, it could be interepreted by the recipiant that the other person is angry with them, this cause confusion for the reciever as they do not know what they have done wrong.
- Using too many!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is incorrect as it provides the impression of shouting and anger.
- using 2 many abbreviations mks it hard 4 thm 2 read yr message
- tooooooooooo muuucch punctuation..........and..........lettttteeeerrrrrsss looks messy and can also be hard for them to read
- too much information can make it harder to read
